Qualification Attained*

* where all required units as per the Australian Qualifications Framework (AQF) are successfully completed

  • Certificate III in Engineering - Fabrication Trade (MEM30305)

What will I get out of this program?

This program covers a range of vocational outcomes from the Engineering Fabrication trade qualification in: Engineering Fabrication, Engineering Fabrication (Casting and Moulding), Engineering Fabrication (Heavy Fabrication - Boilermaking), Engineering Fabrication (Light Fabrication - Sheet Metal), Engineering Fabrication (Patternmaking), Engineering Fabrication (Springmaking) and Engineering Fabrication (Surface Furnishing).

What job opportunities will I have?

Upon successful completion of an apprenticeship, participants will be trade qualified as a fabrication worker. The outcome will be a tradesperson in the particular chosen trade.

Do I need to have prior knowledge or work experience?

For entry into the apprenticeship program, particpants must be employed as an apprentice and must have signed a Registered Training Contract.

Don't repeat learning that you've already attained through work/life experience or prior study. Skills Recognition formally recognises existing skills and experience, fast-tracking study and reducing the cost of learning.

Evaluate your own skills; undertake a self-evaluation questionnaire in the Certificate III in Engineering Fabrication Trade visit: http://www.skillstech.tafe.qld.gov.au/prospective_students/skills_recognition/self_evaluation/index.html

What can I study after this?

Participants can continue studies in Certificate IV, Diploma or Advanced Diploma programs.

Study Option: Certificate III in Engineering - Fabrication Trade - Surface Finishing - Apprenticeship

(back to study option list)

This program provides the skills and knowledge required for engineering fabrication in the area of engineering surface finishing.

Training includes how to alter the surface of a manufactured item to achieve a certain property by various preparations i.e abrasive blasting: improve appearance, adhesion or wettability, corrosion resistance, tarnish resistance, chemical resistance, wear resistance, hardness, modify electrical conductivity, remove burrs and other surface flaws, and control the surface friction. In limited cases some of these techniques can be used to restore original dimensions to salvage or repair an item. An unfinished surface is often called mill finish. These surfaces are then treated by applying various protective coating systems as a method of corrosion control using different application techniques including air assisted and airless spray systems.
